Large Scale Central

Custom Burlington Northern 40' box car

On my last trip to Zionsville Train Depot, I picked up a couple sorry looking Lionel Large Scale pieces. One was this 40’ box car. Was horribly painted in boxcar red with self adhesive number decals on it. I removed those, lightly sanded the worst areas of the body and spray bombed the car in BN Cascade green. I found some O scale BN decals for hopper cars on ebay that would be large enough to look decent. Still need to seal the decals up with gloss coat, but that is a couple days away when everything is dried and cured. Mike.

Looks good, Mike.

Nice redo Mike.

And you’re the first on your block to have one! Cool.

Great rescue. And I wonder if the sanding and painting without first stripping the old paint parallels prototype repaints.

Forrest, it does. One of the stories I heard, the shop repainted a string of boxcars, without even bothering to wash the dirt off them first.

Looks good!

Great job, Mike… The Lionel large scale cars are excellent pieces and run right nicely.

I’ve done a lot with them in the past as well… (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif)(http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-smile.gif)
