Large Scale Central

Current Large Scale Manufacturer List

Could you help me put together a list of the best US Large Scale manufacturers currently selling locos?

Gonna be a mighty short list(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-foot-in-mouth.gif)

Currently? US manufacturers? That would be like Heartland.

Hartland Locomotive works is the only one that is USA based. But if you want any producing USA style engines, you get LGB, USA Trains, Accucraft(electric and live steam), Roundhouse(live steam), Bachmann, AML(Accucraft offshoot if they ever get the GP60 to the light of day). Hopefully Bachmann will bring back some of the old Aristocraft engines in time. Mike

I think the case can be made that Hartland are some of the best people making locomotives.

Hartland and…ummmm

Missouri Locomotive Co aka MoLoCo and… Umm

Mostly being made by AccuCraft’s people off shore

Even though I live in Missouri the Missouri Locomotive company is unknown to me.

So I plugged that in to Google and a curious thing is happening.

when clicking page link Google found Firefox is coming with website can’t be found and a search page from my internet provider comes up with alternate suggestions.

Okay, have 3 other browsers in this box, try them. Chrome finds the page. Edge finds the page. Internet Explorer finds the page.

Back to Firefox, searching for several other random things which came to mind, aerodynamics, camelback locomotive, Kampala, downspout, and clicking random hits, those sites all came up just fine. But nope, though Moloco is found by the same Google search engine as in the other 3 browsers, in Firefox my ISP says nope, doesn’t exist.

Which is a huge mystery since the other 3 browsers by definition go through the same ISP.

I was kinda wondering that was the case. That just leaves HLW as the only made in the US mfr that I can think of.

USA Trains “American Series” and “Work Train Series” models are made in the USA. (1/24 scale boxcars, “Billboard Reefers”, and work cars.)

USA Trains “Ultimate series” 1/29 scale locomotives and cars are made in China.

Atleast Roundhouse live steamers are still make in the UK, one of the last UK commecial small scale live steam builders. Excellent quality and parts support if one is considering adding a finger burner to thier stable. They have 2 USA style engines, the Sammie in the basic series for under $700, and the big Sandy River 2-6-2 with tender in the classic range. I have seen the other models americanized much like we all used to do in the early days when it was LGB or nothing. Mike

What is the scoop on Piko America?

Piko, sure isn’t made in North America…

Bellflower Locomotives is made in the US. He makes the Live steam Cricket.
