Curiosity: Ana Kramer's diesel $29+

Any insight on the “dummy” non-powered diesel for sale on Ana Kramer’s website? Belly photo even shows the fake motor block – apparently, the entire loco is in plastic and cast mainly one piece. However, photos show it looks very acceptable mixed in with other locos.

Who makes it – who would even want to? – and are there other such loco models?
The price appears reasonable if the quality is reliable.

I think this is the 1:32 model that Jerry Barnes bought, what, a year ago; modicum of detail, and his was orange if I remember right.

A link would be helpful to answer further.

Greg

I have one also, its “close” to 1/29ish, looks great parked on a siding. I thought it would look best as a weathered graffitied parked or abandoned switcher being stored at a yard, something we’ve all seen in reality but no one wants to model an “abandon” at $300 an engine, well now you can…

It is unpowered, very thick plastic rails, toyish in detail, has train sound buttons, is made by New Ray in China. It is G in gauge and rolls OK even on R1s. As I said all rusted up and covered in Graffiti would look great parked at the end of a siding.

At some point in its development it appears to have had provisions for a motor in one of the trucks, but it was never installed as such, most likely was they did a few with a cheap motor, then tested them using the freight cars from the G train sets they currently make, and found it couldn’t pull them worth beans, so they dumped the idea of a train set and are selling them off unpowered as “push toys” .

That would be perfect for someone like Stacy. Get a few of those and one powered locomotive and you have yourself a consist.

The man’s name is Albert Buddy Kramer.

Scroll down to “Professional Information” for proof.

And this proves what, Joe? Everybody knows that Al Kramer ran San Val Trains in Simi Valley until he closed it down almost ten years ago, and still runs an eBay shop out of his garage.

Wendell was asking about the locomotive.

I’m pretty sure that this loco was also sold as a K-Line, powered – they both ride equally high, and both have truck-mounted couplers than run under the pilots rather than through them.

You are right Robbie. It is the old K-line molds. I have two of their Army locomotives and they are the same, but have glass in the windows/etc. Not very good motor blocks in them. I think you could motorize this with a North West Shortline two axle block and use the side frames on the dummy. I messed with mine some and put some lights in it and it sits out on my layout all the time. Gives visitors and idea of what the trains look like.

I received a pair of USA drive bricks, I checked and they just happen to be the same wheelbase size as the bricks on this toy, so it could be feasible to convert one of these into a powered unit. I dont plan to do so for mine, mostly because as a Geep its simply too large for my layout, but others might want to give it a whirl so I am passing my observation along.

Vic,

Just out of curiosity , which USA power brick fits the wheelbase ?

Pat

I think they are the GP bricks, I’ll have to see if I can find a part #

On a similar note, many, many years ago, I was into “N” scale. Arnold Rapido. The hobby shop where my father purchased the set also carried white metal trains and track that went under the trade name of Lone Star Trains. They were non powered and meant just as scenery to give the effect of a lot of locos and rolling stock. At fifteen years old, they were all I could afford if I wanted my layout to look busy.

How “close” are they to 1/29th, whats the cab length and width on them?

EBAY advert (seller translation from German to English) shows the following

Suppose it could always have a motorized box car behind it…but get the bit about it being powerful…without a motor!!

  • Tracks lane G with Track distance 45 mm.

  • Batteries for sound built-in.

  • For small and Great children.

  • Scale 1:32

  • Total length with couplers 550 mm. The locomotive also pass to the normal scale or 1:22 , 5, since the locomotive is very powerful.

  • Manufacturer NewRay and Clutch Zenner

Here’s what I did with mine.

BN GP35

I used USA NW2 / S4 moton blocks because the wheel size and base were a closer match for 1/32. I still had to add about 3/16th to the side frames so they lined up correctly. Built a new frame and dropped her to an acceptable height. Still needs additional lighting and window glaze, but almost done.

BN GP35

Cheers!

Nice one…

I’m sure that it’s 1/32 Wie gummie wummie or whatever Hans calls it, so whats the real scale, lol

Cool. an inexpensive diesel. I mean, that is if you can get the trucks for a decent price.

That looks great.

Here’s a video of one in ACTION!!
