Watched Trains Unlimited today on the history channel. Trains in war was subject,but the question is on a small box/flag? located on civil war era either box cars or maybe early converted cars. The Box/flag and cars were not real distinct in the one photo they showed,but they were located on the car roof only near one end. They looked to be less than 1 foot square and mounted on a short staff to stay above the roof.
Anybody have any ideas? What are they? Their use? Particular to certain roads?
