CT Antique Machinery Asoc. Fall Festival 9/27-29

Next weekend is the annual Fall Festival at the Connecticut Antique Machinery Association (CAMA) in Kent. CT. They have several locomotives on static display plus Hawaii No. 5 and several D&RGW gondolas operating on a short track.

It’s been several years since I’ve made it up to Kent. I plan on being there Saturday and possibly Sunday. Weather forecast is for Sunny in the 70’s.

They make a great Engineer’s Soup in a huge steam heated vat!

Festival Grounds is on US Route 7, just North of the Village of Kent, Connecticut.

Looks very interesting- Thanks for the heads up!

Not sure if No. 5 will be running. The guy who was in charge of maintaining / operating it had a falling out with the club a few years back. They don’t mention it in the advertising.

With one more set of drivers #5 would look remarkably like the Bachmann Indy

Yes. The boiler etc. is nearly identical. Same number of wheels on the rail, just a trailing truck rather than a third set of drivers.

We are hoping to attend either Sat or Sunday and the Shaker Hancock Village ( About an hour away) on the other day. The Sloane-Stanley Museum next door looks interesting also!

Jon - thanks for posting this!

Went up Saturday. Weather was excellent maybe a little too hot in the sun for late September. #5 finally got up and running after fixing a problem, with a sticky air cylinder on the engine brakes. This year they offered tender rides on the light engine which was a big hit. I did notice that #5 doesn’t gleam like she used too. There just isn’t as much care going to her as there was before Bob H. had a falling out with the club.

Lots of new exhibits since my last visit 3 years ago. The mining museum displays are complete and they have expansion plans for the museum, A new operating sawmill has been added but wasn’t running each time I got to that end of the grounds.

I took a few (hundred) pictures, but mostly of #5 and some building architecture features for reference. I’ll try and post a few this evening.

We also attended Saturday- ended up parking almost at the end of the lot- thankfully for my wife they had a shuttle bus. There was a large camper parked next to #5 so we were unable to take any pictures of it. Very interesting place, hope to attend again next year.

The crowd seemed quite a bit larger this year then in years past. I looked through the pictures this evening. Here are some of the better ones…

#5 raising steam in the crisp morning light…
