How much trouble is it to switch from truck mounted to body mounted couplers? The body mounts will put them quite a bit higher, right?

Body mounts are no higher then the truck mounted couplers as long as you use a Kadee height gage. Body mounted couplers will bring your cars closer together and will allow you to do switching operations. You can get the Kadee height gage for around $18.00, in either “G” gauge or “1” scale.
