My last suggestion/observationā€¦
Donā€™t take forgranted that both ends of any car will both be exactly the same. Iā€™ve had them differ anywhere up to an eighth of an inch in height. So check both ends, and also check car, and truck bolsters for tightnessā€¦some trucks may need adjustmentā€¦before you start measuring for shims, or cutting for body mounting.

I have realized that false assumption already. Mainly from my less than perfect scratch building. I ALWAYS set each coupler according to the gauge instead of assuming that what is right for one side is right for the other. I have found differences mainly in my own construction with bolster heights not being identical which then means truck height is not identical which means coupler height is not identical.

So on all the cars I have made I have used the gauge in both ends and so far have done the same on all the commercial stock I have converted.
