A very simple modification to enable a coupler fitting to the cowcatcher of the Forney. LGB supplied a ‘prototypical’ link/pin coupler fitting on their model with little thought to hauling rolling stock from the front end. This mod involves cutting a loop coupler mount tang to enable fitting to the stock cowcatcher link/pin mounting. The stock mount location enables the loop coupler to be fitted using the original mount screw. An approximate 0.125" spacer needs to be inserted in the base of the cowcatcher mount pocket to lower the loop coupler height to match other rolling stock. I did cut a little from the ‘vee’ section moulding at the front of the cowcatcher to give clearance for the hook coupler on the car being towed. A knuckle coupler could most likely be modified to fit in place of the loop coupler. Now a Forney is able to run around a train and haul from the opposite end.
