Large Scale Central

Counting Rivets........1........2........3

Ok in conjunction with the Large Scale Central EBT Boxcar Project, I wanted a quick and easy way to simulate the rivets on the cars. Hmmm its only styrene…So while looking round the Shop this is what I came up with…

My under utilized drill press with depth stop, a finishing nail, scrap piece of brass, an a chunk o wood. Drill a hole in the brass to act as a die, makes the nice crisp rivet outline. File the end of the nail to a rivitish profile. Set the depth stop on the press to keep from punching through the material, and VOILA’!

I’m thinking a different jig may be needed for styrene shapes and for sheet goods…Experimentation will continue…

Bart,

That looks pretty good. For the smaller scales I built a riveter - many years ago - that has a weight for uniform embossing.

BUT your method looks good, immediately had me think of using that on my milling machine. Evenly spaced rivets thanks to table travel!
