Copper Rail Depot Updated

Fog and stagnant air, here. Don’t want to pay the electric company to heat the place (radiant heaters in the ceiling, just to meet code for resale purposes, not for use.) and if I use the Franklin Stove as the house was designed for, the house becomes enshrouded in a smoky fog. Isn’t that called smog? Or pea soup? Or something?

I think I’ll go rub to Boy Scouts together. Nope, cant do that, either, that’s child abuse.

Time to put on a sweater.

:stuck_out_tongue:

-5F this morning and a high of 9. Now it is -1 I have not seen my layout in a few weeks

Were not as cold as you guys but cold enough. -2F when I went to bed last night and till below zero at 8:30 this morning. My propane fireplace in the basement died last night. I don’t know if it got too cold for the propane to off-gas or if I ran out. I thought I was on automatic delivery.

EDIT: Just checked the ‘boiling point’ of Propane and it’s -44F, so I must be out of gas. DANG!!

Ltes see, it was 38º last night on the CCRy, had to put on a third layer to stay some what warm. The trees were driping condensate and the track was moist and no sand was available. It is fun to watch a two truck Shay in full ‘slip’! Other wise it wa sfun!

My topic name became a something of a misnomer. I am now doing the Copper Rail Depot updates through the articles section where I started an updated article on the layout.

We had an unusually lengthy interlude between cold spells. When it finally broke early last week temperatures jumped about 90 degrees into the low 40s. Typically this break in the weather will last about two days before plunging back into the sub-zero realm. This time our Chinook went on for nearly a week, bringing in several days of icy rain and transforming everything around into ice since the ground remains very cold. My driveway is now an icefield but almost all of the snow is off the roofs. Snow on the ground is also now down to 8 inches or less. And now we are looking at the sub zeros again. Prediction for tonight is minus 25. This morning the low was minus 8. And I understand that there are already predictions in the Pacific Northwest that this system will spread winter weather back to that area.

Thanks a lot, Ron. You could keep it, you know. That's why you moved up there!

Actually, I am an ORIGINAL Alaskan. That aside, I love this frigid arctic air SO much that I feel a need to share some of it with everybody--you know, spread the joy around ! Don't you FEEL the love?

“Don’t you FEEL the love?” Give me a chill

Don’t put your winter gear away yet ! It was 42 below at Arctic Village last night. And this is just the beginning of a new cold spell.

They’re warning us about extreme cold this week end, reaching temperatures as low as 25 degrees warmer than 2 weeks ago. “Do you guys have short memories or what?”

Wow. That’s 25 degrees of global warming in 2 weeks :o Better call Al Gore!
