Is there some strong or typical distinction in the definitions of depot vs station? Just curious.
Greg
I always thought of a Depot as handling both freight and passengers and a station just handling passengers.
Fancy above and utilitarian below…
The top one may have been a movie prop, the cactus scream Old Tucson (the movie studio) Not many railroads out that way…

I did a little research …
A Station is a designated spot on the railroad, used for orders and signalling, if there is a building there, it is called the Depot. Of course our language changes and the distinction is muted these daze.
John
John those are great. I was thinking at one point a small office and platform. But Granite sits high in the rocky mountains and it gets cold so my passengers need a waiting room. I do like that little one. It would need an added freight room but that is about the perfect size.
Wow, that is a very cool find! What a nifty little depot!

Yes, that one’s a prop. I’ve never been there personally but i’ve seen other photos of that depot which identified it as being in Old Tucson. Still cool though, and would be ideal for a small layout!

Or…maybe this:
A depot is a building.
A station is any named place along the railroad.
