Large Scale Central

Construction on The Sunny View Line

Nice shots especially the last with the bench. I love those passenger cars and station.

Ralph, The cars and station look good together and the railroad seems to be growing in leaps and bounds. And there are plenty of (whistle stop stations) out there so you’re prototypical

Nice lookin consist there!

I see you have the ladies names on all cars so far except the Baggage…whats the hang-up?
Looks real good Ralph!

Sharp eye, David. Still have some decals to print, including the baggage car name and car numbers.

Thank you for the compliments. Painting all those window sashes green was a pain. I painted the combine sashes freehand. Sprayed the sashes on the observation car, on the left. I think it was a bigger PIA to do all the masking.

…winking…

After placing the station, I decided I need to change the aproach. This will allow me to move the station over a bit, away from the walk-over. My yard was originally on the station siding. The approach was bumped out so that the yard lead could handle longer trains and still give the switcher room to operate. Now with the yard moved, I can straighten the aproach. Problem is, a tree is in the way. The tree is doing well, so I hate to move it. So, here is the alternative to moving the tree. Haven’t made up my mind yet as to which way I will procede. Ralph

I decided to just go ahead and move the Spruce. I straightened the siding. Moved the depot about 3 feet. This will give me room for a water tower and coaling facility. This also opens up a nice area for an industrial siding. It will have to wait until I get my hands on another switch. Ralph

Nice choice Ralph as it really opens that area up. Like the future ideas

I filled in part of the open ditch with gravel. Moved a switch and installed an industrial siding. I decided to keep the siding short so it doesn’t interfere with other plans. Whatever structure I come up with will be on the right of the siding. Ralphhttp://

At last some sun and 50 degree temps. But too windy to spray paint. Last weekend I removed 72 feet of track to make some changes. Today I put some temporary track down to see how the changes will work. I removed one runaround from the yard lead. This frees up some space for a maint. facility down the road. Also frees up a couple of swithches now.

I increased the space between my two main loops by adding a foot of track between the interchange switches.

This also straightens out that “crick” in the curve.

Since the passenger depot track work had been damaged by the wind, I decided to make some changes. This saved me over 40 feet of straight track I can use elsewhere. It also moves all my switches to the upper end of the RR and gives me a smaller loop I can run.

Changes look good Ralph. Did you leave the yard alone?

So thats what the ground looks like. I forgot when I saw my tracks last, I have over three feet of snow on my layout LOL The changes look great so far Ralph

Nope ...he's gonna put the yard inside the loop ;)

No changes to the yard. I’m pretty happy with the yard layout. Since I have another runaround in the yard, I won’t miss the one I took out. Here is an old construction photo with both runarounds on the yard lead. Ralph

Glad to see that since you just got the yard.

Congrats on your article in GR even if it was last page

Holy Cow Ralph, I think you’ve cornered the market on turnouts!! Man you’ve got a ton of track, I bet operating is a ball on your layout.

If I ever stop making changes, I may find out if operating will be fun. I've had one loop functioning for about 18 months. I've changed the passenger station siding three or 4 times. Moved the yard. Changed the yard a few times. Numerous other small changes. A couple days of nice weather and I should be able to finish the track work on these latest changes. Then maybe I will get started on finishing the second loop. I'm determined to have it fully functional by the end of Spring. Ralph

You should be shooting for the end of March.
