Large Scale Central

Concrete Jungle to Garden Railway

A work project and first full GR build. A small rowhouse backyard that was totally concrete. Concrete busted into blocks (some of it 10" thick! Oy, my aching back!) and used for the back retaining wall and fill for a raised bed. Rest of the bed constructed of Xpotential timbers (recycled from all the non metal parts of cars). All the track laid on Tufboard ladder. Track is AMS code 332 (or whatever it is) brass flex. Two simple loops of about 5 - 7 foot diameter. All will be battery powered. Some pics (from a 12 year old digital camera I carry in the truck because I forgot to put the battery back into my good camera. Doh!!!)

A small and simple layout! Note on the AMS track - It bends well (even with belly bending) with the Train Li bender BUTTTT! Split Jaw rail clamps will not grip the rail because the foot of the rail is too thick! Luckily, I had a back up supply of Aristo rail clamps -

These worked very well! and easy to use from above with a philips head screwdriver. That’s all for now. I will take some better shots with the good camera next time I’m over there. -Brian

Looks great, Brian! 10" thick concrete? Sounds like a parking space for a D9!

Nice work! That’s gong to look really great when it grows in

I like the Arisot clamps pretty well-they are easy to install from above and in tight spots

Got around to taking some better pics -

7/8th’s Yummy.

Pretty Kewl!!

Great looking little railroad

Proof that it doesn’t need to be huge, it all depends …

Was this for a client? Very nice!

Yup, got paid to do it. Small but you gotta start somewhere. I'm busy working on a water feature for another corner and they we'll get the surrounding plantings in.

Thanks guys!

Brian, . . . Real, real NICE. Good practical design and a fun layout without trying to get too big or too complicated. I really like the way you raised it all up above ground level.

Good railroadin’ . . . .
