Thanks, Mike. I guess if we tried to replicate everything, we’d go nuts, or perhaps more so that we already are…

So, any other builders out there interested in getting some ends and giving this a try? I’ll start production of the ends if y’all are. I’m thinking $12 a pair, plus shipping (about 4 bucks).
Bob ,
I do hope you get some interest shown , they look quite the biz . As I can’t get them very easily , I would have to say sorry , no can do . Much as I would like to give them a try . A set of matching doors would make them even more attractive perhaps ?
Mike
Steve ,
Trying to model all the detail can be a rod for your own back , especially if your super detail model makes all the rest of your stuff look like crap .
I have run into that problem before , my early model tanks (armour , not engines) now look positively crude compared to my later ones . So much so that I have to keep them separated , so’s not to remind me .
But I still think we should try .
Take those ends that Bob’s done , to do justice to them , you ain’t gonna glue a few slabs of flat wood on to make a wagin , are ya ? I think though , that the end pieces may lead some to try to be a bit more adventurous , and that can only be a good thing , don’t you think ? Improves the standard of modelling all round .
Mike
Well, the doors on the prototype are pretty plain, so Im not sure a casting is going to be any cheaper than just buying some styrene. Definately easier for the modeler, but they’d probably be a dollar or two a piece if I cast them in resin.
Yes , Bob , the doors are a bit plain ; when I wrote the bit about the doors , I had a mental image of steel doors . My brain must be getting its picture library mixed up . Sad , old age creeping up on a chap like that .
Mike
Bob, I’d be interested in them. Probably more than one set but I’m going to have to figure out just how many of these cars I would really like. I’ve got a zillion ideas running through my head. I’m thinking off the top of my head at least 4 sets.
Cool. Looks like I need to make about 20 pair, from what I’ve got emails and all from.
Here’s what it looks like painted. I’m very pleased with how it turned out.
I’m planning on at least five more of these…
Heynow, thats pretty neat lookin! Love it!
Jeez, all I said was I wanted to borrow your box cab while you built the thing…and you go and rush it…
She looks mighty fine Bruce. Speaking of the box cab, let’s see a pic or 2 of it with this new box car.
I’d love to get a picture of it. My plan was to work on track today, but it looks like a rainy weekend.
Time for another project…
The next question is, How’s Bob coming along on his car?? Looking forward to pictures of that one too.
Since it decided to become winter here all of a sudden, its too cold to paint, but I figure I should show progress on my first composite car. I need to get some 1/8 rod for the ladders. These are 3/16 and it doesnt look right.
I have to agree with you on the ladder. The whole thing looks too big…even the sides. I also think it needs one more rung on it. Those look too far spaced. Otherwise a really neat looking car…
It does look nice! But, thinner rod would be nice. I ended up using .040 brass as it’s pretty easy to work with, but it’s probably too thin. I’m not sure what the scale width is.
Too cold to paint? Do you only paint outside?
Yea, I only paint outside. I dont have a spray booth yet, though its on the to-do list.
Bob Bruce they look great can you tell me what you are useing for the top door slide? is that a piece of z streyne and what sizeare you using
I just used some angle for mine…but I don’t recall the size.
I agree with Warren. More rungs. The ladders on the EBT’s wood and composite cars had rungs spaced at 14". The steel cars grab irons were spaced at 18".
Great looking car.
Later,
K
