Large Scale Central

Colorado to Cambridge UK

in four days…

We all like to jab at US Mail, right? Sure, it can act a mite freaky on occasions, but then again, it can be so good that the surprise is more than pleasant, it’s astounding.

Phil Dippel of Phil’s Narrow Gauge mailed me off some stuff on 26/27 October, and it’s here today. Props to Phil and to US Mail as well.

It is truly amazing sometimes (both ways)!(https://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-undecided.gif)

.

UK Royal Mail managed to get a packet for me to Uppsala in Sweden in 3 days this week…(Sound the trumpets)!! …truly amazing for an outfit that either looses the mail or takes a week to get it 50 miles. (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-tongue-out.gif)

Mind you I have had one packet that got to Aussie in 5 days…Truly amazing. More to do with the airline carrying it than Royal Mail I suspect!

I have found that when buying form the US and shipping to the UK the foul ups generally occur at the place where the package enters the UK and is held up at the point where customs clearance is made and taxes are assessed and levied before the package is released for onward delivery. Especially with the USPS/Royal Mail & Parcelfarce combo, UPS not so much so. East Midlands airport appears to be the usual “port of entry” for air mail shipments to the UK from the US. It pays to be proactive and keep an eye on the shippers’ mail trackers and expedite it oneself rather than wait for any communication asking for payments. A hard lesson learnt a long time ago.
