Large Scale Central

Colorado buildings

I am new to garden railroading. Anyone had experience with Colorado buildings. They appear to be reasonably priced as compared to most of the G scale stuff out there. Are they easy to put together? Thoughts…opinions appreciated.
John

Yes, great guy to work with reasonable prices, and nice kits. Take a look at the ones I purchased here: He has a couple new ones out I especially want to get the saloon one. Regal

John, We (Wife & I) use the Colorado building kits… They make for nice buildings… We strengthen them up for outside use, buy creating a second wall inside the building with Acrylic plastic that we purchase from Home depot/Lowes… The Acrylic performs 2 functions… 1) It makes the window glass, and 2) It adds quite a bit of strength and weight to the building so it won’t blow around too much outside… Wife paints the buildings, then puts the sides together… I then measure opposite sides, and cut the acrylic to fit each side… Once this is done, I measure and cut the other sides… She uses ““Goop”” to put them all together… We have quite a few of the buildings… One of their towers:

you can see at least 3 buidling s of colorado models in the below pic…

And, No… I’m not affiliated with colorado models…

Yep, especially the “Bonner Mine” building, I strengthened the structure on the inside its so tall when gluing if you don’t it will come apart and collapse. I just used little ceder strips in the corners and joints wherever there was a joint, worked out really well. Regal

They make excellent bash material. The freight shed I used to make the freight section of Hesperus depot. Another building I made into a bath house and a third is the office for the saw mill.

What you might want to do when your building them is brace the inside corners. Some guys use plexiglass or Lexan on the inside just to add a little strength to them.

You probably already got your order in but I’ll add my two cents. I too like his buildings and have a number on the layout. Be sure to add support in the corners. I look forward to seeing him at Southwest in Pomona next month.

After seeing this thread I decided to give two a try. I just ordered two of the smaller ones. Cant wait to try them out. Guess you can say I converted to plastic somewhat.

I purchsed several kits a year or so ago but without adequate indoor storage for them they have sat un-assembled in the shipping box downstairs in the workshop. I was duly impressed with the ease of ordering and quickness in which they shipped. So far I can say I’m happy with at least that part!

Hi John,
I have a couple of there buildings here in Chatham MA. One is dome and the other has not been put together. They are a GOOD DEAl for the price. If you would live to see the one that I have put together send me an email.
Ron

Ron,
Thanks for the offer! I would love to see your layout. We often visit Snow’s at Christmas time to admire the LGB layout. I just finished my 2nd stab at G scale. My first is around the ceiling of my home office in W. Yarmouth. The second is in my backyard, around a newly dug fish pond.

Hi John,
At this time my layout is not in the best shape due to medical issues but with a little TLC I can run a train. My layout goes around a KOI POND and under the waterfall. Let me know when you will be in the area and maybe you can swing by and see the Bait Shop (a Colorado building) You can find my email address on my profile page.

John… As the others have said… Great people to work with…

They have a lot of great stuff including detail parts to make changes to the buildings also. Later RJD
