Color indicator signals

Hello all;

           I would like to make a diorama of a section of track containing a diamond with a leg of a Y.
  About 6-8 feet long and would like to know if anyone knows about color light indicator signals. I would need to control the diamond and also control the leg of the Y.
  I'm from the midwest and can tell you about SP or BN and UP signals but do not know anything about the northeast rail road signaling system but do like the way they look.
  The signal in particular I like the most has red yellow and green in rowes of three that intersect on a round target then the same on a second target below but the lower one has the edges trimmed making it more oval.
   Any ideas?

                                                                                                   Smokebox

Sounds like you’re talking about the B&O Color Position Light signals.

A bit about double signal heads on a mast. Generally (but not always, depends on the RR) if there are two or more heads on a mast, the upper one is the signal for the straight route through an interlocked switch. The lower signal head would be for the diverging route. A diamond and a diverging route would more than likely have 3 heads on it. Spend some time poking through the archives of the Railway-Signaling group on Yahoo. Lots of good information there.

Thanks for letting me know about the yahoo group I went there and requested membership. I think we have been looking at the same companies products, the one I mentioned has the vertical sets of lights like that one with a pair beside the upper and lower set on the lower mast. Making a X with a line down the middle.
At first I wanted a dual main with a set of crossovers thrown into the mix, but with the size restrictions I have,(very small army housing ) I decided to just go with the diamond and a portion of the Y.
Just enough to show off my -9 and a few cars. when uncle gets finnished with me and I have a place to set up a railroad I’ll have more options, so in essence I wanted to build something that can passify my modeling urges!! start up the sound, light the signals and wait for the line to go green I suspose.

                                                                                                                                  Thanks
                                                                                                                                             smokebox

Rob,
First of all - thank you for your service.
Second - welcome to the group, you’ll find a lot of friendlies here.
Third - what are your modeling thoughts, interests and experiences.

Welcome aboard!!!

Hello again;

         I'm from about 100 miles south of St. Louis, MO and have have plenty of exposure to the Frisco/BN/ATSF, Cotton Belt/UP, ICC, I moved around a good bit as a child as my father was in the service also, so I have spent time in chicago and also in West Virginia, I was born in MD, but don't remember much. Although, I remember almost falling through a bridge over the Potomac river!
As far as the modeling goes, I like the time of my youth, the 80's were GREAT, SD 40-2's everywhere, cabooses.
 But as far as my modeling goes, I have not restricted myself to any time or place.
 Infact, my railway will be based on the grain production in the midwest, and more importantly the fuel problems of today.
 We have farmers that work 7 days a week sometimes 24/7 that have to draw foodstamps and welfare just to survive, yet we pay out the nose for crude fuel.
 My railway will be based on a dream of mine, fuel from soybeans, gas from corn and the efforts of so many that made our country great, to begin with, and put them above the poverty level!!
  We can make electric from the sun, wind, water and atoms we can make fuel oil from beans, and gas from combining grain with other products like the Germans did in WW2.
   But anyhow, let me climb down off of my tree stump.
    I like trains, be them electric, fuel or steam, I like them all, there is no way I can have a railroad at this moment but I can build parts of it for when i do have the space.
   At this time I just want someplace to show off my stuff, a black -9 that I'm working on a graphics design for, and a few cars. I thought I could hit the sound on the locomotive, flip on the juice to the signals and wait for the day I can open the throttle and see the train creap forward over a diamond or through a double cross over.
   And do this as a servant of uncle sam (please try not to laugh out to loud)

                                                                                                                           Robert " Smokebox" Wright

Welcome aboard, Rob. You have the mid-watch. Bart has the coffee on down in the Goat Locker. It was made on the last mid-watch, so by now it should be just right. :smiley:

St Louis is a great spot to railfan, I’ve had relatives there and often visited in a past life.

Again, welcome and thank you for your service!

Also doubles as paint remover and tar thinner.

Hello all;

            I guess I should mention this, as referanced above, reguarding the mid watch coffee........... I got out of the Navy 17 years ago!!
 I was on the carrier Independance from 86-90!!
      I reported to her in Philly dry docks and got off of her at carrier pier in Coranado CA. just before she went on her first west pac. It was a real blow when I discovered she was about to become a reef somewhere!!
 So I guess you could call me ship wreck/mudpuppy..... but I'm not going to change my screen name!! LLOL

                                                                                                                       smokebox

By the way fuel oil just hit 100 bucks a drum this morning!!!

                            GO BIO FUEL!!!!!!!!!!

                                                     Smokebox

Any interest in 1:29 searchlight signals? We make them. Tech reference site at www.IPTrains.org

Best to all … JT

Neither of those two posted links seem to work now ! I guess they cancelled each other out :slight_smile:

LOL

It’s been a tough year on the little guys.

I believe that both of us are still around :wink: IPTrains certainly is can can be found at www.IPTrains.com (store) or www.iptrains.org (technical reference site).

WAIT!!! WE HAVE A GOAT LOCKER??? Why was I not told about this?

Roosters and goats not allowed to mix.

So Tom would that be a Gooster or a Roat?
