Beautiful looking car… wonderful job…
Great looking car!
Another excellent car Brian.
Hey, are you ever in the Novi area?
Jon.
Thanks guys,
It’s been a rewarding build.
Jon,
I don’t head that way very often. I just go to work (east) and stay home and build stuff. Soon to be going fishing (east again - Lake St. Clair)
Brian
Sweet Brian, were you been???
Thanks for posting Brian , beautful looking car. Its work like this that inspires me to build my stuff. Your level of detail is fantastic .
Thanks,
Nick, I’ve been puttzing around more than anything.
Working around the house and stuff, selling off some things in anticipation of making a retirement move (a 1-4 year time frame currently).
I had started a caboose project and got stalled on it…finally restarted it recently and hopefully I’ll have it ready to show sometime in the near future.
I’ve also been doing some more research and planning for other model projects.
Talking with Burl, I may take the dive into trying to learn SketchUp and use it to make a lot of those pesky modeling parts that make modeling tedious at times. That will take up more of my time I’m afraid…but in the end having Shapeways making those parts will save time.
Just…
Wow!!!
I have to get busy…
Brian, good job on the coil car!

Brian,
Learning Sketchup will be a big boon in your modeling or at least it has been for me. It’s got a learning curve but there is lots of books (and online videos) that help explain some of the features. I’m currently in the process of redrawing one of my first Sketchup models and am working on drawing up a BN Snow Dozer as well.
Craig
Craig,
Because of this 3D printing technology, I’m excited at the prospect of having access to detail parts as readily available as what’s currently available in HO scale. That will make scratchbuilding even more fun. There are many small detail parts that in my opinion are too difficult to scratchbuild that this technology will allow to be made. Sure there’s a price but even that will go down over time.
These are some exciting times.
Brian
Brian,
I’m thinking I might have some of the more difficult parts on the Snow Dozer printed by Shapeways (they offer a ‘printed’ metal, but its likely a metal copy off the 3D print).
Who needs Cannon & Co, Details West, or Detail Associates when Sketchup and Shapeways allows just as much creativity!
I’m assuming you thinking of detail parts for cars?
Craig
Craig,
Yes, car parts.
Burl already has a good start with the brake gear parts.
I just ordered some, we’ll see how they look.
Brian
Could I find premade cooling fans for my SD70ACe? I’m struggling to make it correct. I was thinking to switch to brass to capture the detailing better. I’m not sure I could even get in there to solder the fins, if even I could cut them accurately?
I got lost on that site.
Great job Brian, Looks cool now f we can get a manufacture to reproduce we’ll be good to go…
