Code 250 switches

Lets talk about code 250 switches, OLD PULLMAN, SWITCH CRAFTERS, AMS, and any others you can tell us about. And if none of them are any good, I guess I can always build them myself, but I’m a rookie at it and I need a bunch…

Bruce Chandler reviewed the Switchcrafters here - http://www.largescalecentral.com/LSCForums/viewtopic.php?id=7861

Pretty good stuff. Come as completely built up or as a kit…

I’ve used this track and switches in the past, long ago.
If I hadn’t been stoopid and sold it all, and then bought all LGB track for my new layout, I would use it again. I bought several switches, including their three-way, and they were works of art–albeit kinda spendy.

I’ve been using Llagas Creek switches with great sucess, 15 on line so far.

The switch in the foreground is an aluminum, code 250, #6 Llagas Creek with narrow gauge ties. They come with the very excellent Tenmill ground throw stands included and assembled as shown except I painted and weathered the track. A bit over $100 assembled, kits are also available. Also for extra price high level brass switch stands can be had. They can also provide them built with smaller, more numerous “standard gauge” ties for 1:32/1:29 use. While maybe pricey mine have worked right out of the box and there’s not been a single failure of either switches or stands thus far. Of course code 250 aluminum doesn’t like to be stepped on and once kinked is impossible to straighten properly. My RR being elevated i haven’t had that problem.

Okay Richard, what are you showing there big guy? Looks like maybe an interchange and maybe some hidden storage? Please elaborate.

I don’t know anything about their track or switches but I recently bought two RCS EVO systems from SwitchCrafters and their service and communication is great. Bruce was a lot of help and is a great guy.

Ric, go over to the other place…there’s the full story…done Richard style… But then again you might twist his arm and he’ll post it here for the guys that don’t visit elsewhere…:expressionless:

Posting this in case someone is interested. Took me forever to find it.

Sure like the fact that Richard is using the Code332 exclusively for hidden trackage.

@ Bernie If you would like to read one more write-up on handlaying turnouts you’re welcome to my method.

Most of us use 332 for hidden trackage as we are to blasted cheap to throw it away and buy more track.
I used most of mine that way.

Precisely the reason I like that, too. Old habit from HO, use all the Code100 where nobody sees it.

Sir!

If you are implying I’m cheap…!!!

You are absolutely right!!!

Of course I prefer being called “Thrifty”.

Thanks for all the info, I have been doing a lot of reading, I will keep ya updated on any progress…
