Coal-fired Aster NYC Hudson in steam

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dom-TUu4arQ

This was a sparkie model converted to coal-firing by master-craftsman Roger Marsh - an even better movie of it steaming around in the sudden snow-shower never made it out of my camera…

main131 is a very lucky bear.

Enjoy.

Nice. Looks a little chilly over that way.

Now that’s one die hard steam guy…converting a sparkie to a finger burner…coal fired, no less…

Sure is…fust you have to have a spare sparkie Aster Hudson to hand. Second, you have to have a guy like Roger Marsh to hand to rebuild the thing.

Sure ain’t no economy way to get into coal-firing…

Nice job. I like that engine.
If you ever get tired of the engine you con post it to me, Ill run it for you.

'snot mine, it belongs to main131 [see his Youtube stuff]. I just happen to be there when he gets this stuff out…he is the J.P.Getty of model steam trains, and a great guy as well. A lot of the stuff that I post on YT is also his, BTW, but I DO say so - not wishing to give the impression that any of his millionnaire models are actually mine.

This is all the live steam that I have -

1 x AccuCraft Garratt
1 x AccuCraft Royal Hudson
1 x AccuCraft 3-cylinder Shay
1 x AccuCraft ‘Earl’
1 x Aster German Br01 pacific
1 x Maerklin Bavarian S3/6 pacific

Tac,

Might not be a huge stable of locomotives, but it sure is a nice one.

Why, thank you, Tom. Doesn’t stop me feeling like Charlie Brown every now and then when I see some of the collections over here, but of course, that’s being just plain stupid. I have what my interests dictate - Canadian and German standard gauge, and US and Welsh narrow gauge with a bit of 29th thrown in.

We are presently running our AccuCraft K27 sparkie with sound for the grandyeb - it’s pretty warm here right now at around 12C - some places are even warmer! In fact, it’s the warmest Christmas Day since 1896 - so much for Global Warming, eh?

You all have a great Christmas - everybody! And if you can, get out there steamin’!

Best to all

You might not have a lot of engines but I bet you run yours more then the guys with a lot of engines. To me you can have all the trains in the world but if you dont run them much they are worthless in my book. The person who runs often is the lucky one even if they have one engine.

Shawn, True words. For my first three years in the hobby I only had but one engine, a Frank-S. I must have put 300 hours on that engine during that time.

p.s. I have expanded my collection somewhat since then.
