I saw this photo on one of the FB train pages and really liked it. It appears to be a single cylinder Shay when you look at the original patent for the Shay. But looking at the photo it is hard to see what the steam motor looks it. It appears to be underneath. Does anyone have any more info on this, especially pictures. It is called the cn-6. I think this would be a great future project in live steam.
Shawn,
The picture was probably taken during the process of scrapping the loco. The motor and drive train and some other parts have already been removed.
I spent a lot of time looking at early Shays when I was building my vertical boilered coal fired example years ago. There were not any one cylinder Shays nor any with an underslung motor. His first loco was a wooden flat car with a marine engine, vertical boiler, a swiveling logging truck on one end and fixed truck on the other, quite crude.
As Ken has suggested, Shaylocomotives.com has a lot of good info.

That make sense, why I don’t see anything. I was going by the drawing and the picture. That would have been cool if it was a single cylinder. I liked the chain driven with the fixed wheel. That would be another good one. Thanks for the info Tom and Ken for the link.
When I saw you liked the pic on bookface I fully expected to see a live steam model of it by spring (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)
