For the longest time I wanted to do an indoor layout but never had a spot in the house. Then my daughter got a new bed and because it was bigger, we had to use the mattress from our spare room. Since the room has been vacant since spring I figured it was fair game now. I took it over.
My original plans called for an 0N30 or G scale layout. But did I want something permanent especially if we had plans on moving. Then I got thinking. I have always liked the look of an older prewar style layout, with the tin Litho buildings and trains. But the problem was the cost of the older Lionel and American Flyer trains. Then thanks to Vic I remember he was into Marx trains and saw that he had some Clockwork trains. I started googling clockwork and found a lot of stuff on ebay and some great web sites. The last few weeks I started collecting clockwork trains and track for a layout.
The layout is 7x4ft with an outer loop that connects to an inner figure 8. I got the track plan from this site. http://nfrailro.ipower.com/clockworktrainsoperating.html I really like the operating plan especially for clockwork. I did modify the track plan. I took out the middle loop. My future plan calls for a yard area like the one from the link below. I just have to find a few more switches and a turn table. Little by little I want to get some more tin litho structures and accessories. My goal is to keep it pre war or as close as I can. Although I did cheat on my outer loop. I had to use Lionel 42 inch track with the center rail removed. Here is the layout so far.
