Clarks Emporium

Not in any buildings Steve but I did have a wasps nest in a low (2ft. above dirt level) dry stone wall this year. They prevented me, until the temperature went cooler and pollen was in sort supply, from removing and old open bridge and replacing it with my new covered bridge. I presume their nest is still there and contains pupae?

I had thought about removing some of the stonework and removing any nest, or traces of one, but thought maybe if I did that they would return in spring/early summer and find a nice alternative home in my covered bridge. aaargh!.

I will watch this thread with interest

Do you have any problems with wasps homesteading in your buildings?
Yup, all the time. But it was an occupational hazard when I worked for the phone company, so it's relatively easy for me to deal with it. I can usually spot them buzzing around a certain area, so I know to be aware if I need to move or fix something. And keep a can of wasp spray handy...............;)

I've found that a ball of cotton, soaked in citronella oil works well to keep all sorts of bugs out of my buildings. I put the ball into a small, cheap glass inside the building. I just refresh the oil periodically during the season. No worries.

I’ll have to remember that one.

Good idea Steve. I have wasp problems as well as spiders. Never thought about the oil trick.

Finally made it out to the layout. I had to clear a small stump out of the way to fit it in…

and move the bath house a few feet…

It's gettin there, I just hope this nice weather holds out. This is probably the earliest I've ever been able to work out on the layout.

I cant believe how early spring is this year. We have to be almost a month ahead. In a normal year I wouldnt be able to dig until mid to late april. Temps are suppose to be mild all week Ken. You can get a lot done.

Your right. The Star Magnolia is in full bloom already, and it's usually early anyway, but never this early. Heard a lot of garden tractors running yesterday, I guess everyone's taking advantage of it. Cabin Fever had everyone out.........;)
