Cibola Motive Power... Maintenance & Upgrades

Here all these years I thought steam locos had flue tubes inside them, not wires! Joking aside, this is great stuff. It’s fun to see how things are assembled, and your pictures do a great job of explaining that. Thanks for another great thread. Better make haste on that tender. I hear a kit in a manilla envelope is on it’s way!

Boomer,

Those look like the NiMH airsoft paint gun batteries I used in my EBT #15 tender. Maybe mine were bigger - 9 cells = 10.8 V per pack, whereas you have 7 cells = 8.4 V ?

Anyway, I recently replaced them with a pair of lithium batteries, which were 1/4 the size and weight for almost the same power rating. My tender is now a LOT lighter!

Boomer, your wiring expertise is terrific. You must have been the guy that wired the Abq. Bio Park layout. I enjoy seeing your progress. Have to visit your layout someday, and Dave Taylor’s as well. You’re both within range. Keep us posted on your continued refinements.

Thanks Boomer. That will be put on my agenda, between SWMBO’s RV trips!

It looks great so far. While you’re at it you should “lower” the tender too. It’s a super easy mod that makes them look so much better.

You should use peg board!
