Tony,
you know that you just put the cat amongst the pidgeons? If one’s church says it is true, then how could one deny it without doubting the rest of their faith?
Tim Brien said:Obviously, Tim, you know nothing about the Anglicans. Church is where we go to get our answers questioned.

Steve,
if I had a religious question, I would seek advice from a priest. If I had a science question, I would not go to a priest! It seems to me that the Anglicans are ‘cashing in’ on the problem, ‘tuning’ into what is ‘socially topical’, rather than a true concern for the effects on the environment. They are simply letting the faithful know that they are ‘hip’ and are aware of current affairs.

Oh Tony…you just had to go and find a global warming statement by my church national organization! (Gads! If I wasn’t already feeling less than enthusiastic about organized religion, THIS would do it!!)
All my elderly aunt goes to church for is to socialize and to see what the other old ladies are wearing.
Can one who professes to be a Christian also be a scientist?
Do you believe that any scientific discovery by any Christian must be a fraud?
Can anyone of any faith, or not, have any true scientific opinion other than the one you hold?
By what standard is any scientific theory vetted to prove it is a fact, i.e. the speed of light?
I await your full and honest answers.

Well here’s mine:
- yes
- question does not quite make sense. Answer is clearly yes–anyone can have any opinion. Opinions can not be true or false, they are opinions. It is my opinion that hot sauce is good in chili. “true scientific opinion” is a phrase that makes no sense.
- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scientific_evidence. Could be summarized as “repeatability, simplicity, subject to testing and verifiable, not based on untestable assumption.”
The Wiki link had an embedded link to scientific method which is what I believe best explains what can be determined to be fact and what is a theory or a hypothesis.
The arguments here on global warming and evolution all fall short of the proof of fact such as 2+2=4. The threat comes from the individuals that have a theory or hypothesis and hold it out as fact and refuse to engage in any further discovery or peer review as, Al Gore has refused any debate (“Case closed. There is no further discussion needed.”.

I started writing a reply to David’s questions, then saw Mike’s answers. He stated it better than I could have, so I’ll just say:
What Mike said!
The link Mike provided goes to a page that states: “Wikipedia does not have an article with this exact name.”
I’m not certain how, but I searched around and found the page Mike quotes from. Seems to be the same url, so not certain what is wrong with the link.
Happy RRing,
Jerry
Mike:
Yep! Works now.
