Thanks to Jon for bringing this stuff up.
I don’t need any converter, cause my new digital Sony Bravia tv is hooked up to digital cable.
But, with the advent of DVR’s and the antiquity of VHS, I would like some input on DVR’s.
Are they just like vhs? And can you save any programs on a DVD-RW?

Yes, they essentially work like solid-state VHS tapes. What I can’t tell you is whether or not the compression of one brand over another is better or worse. I suppose it could be, I’ve not looked into it. My DVRs are built into my DirecTV receivers, so I don’t have a choice there. You can hook it up to a DVD-R and record your shows. Mine also have USB ports so you can transfer the files to your computer hard drive should you so desire. That way you can store them there and recall them later. I would think this would be a common feature.
