Chiemseebahn Tram

Loosely based on the European Chiemseebahn Tramway, the train started life as a 1987 LGB Schweiger ‘red’ set. The blue dining car body was used for the tram engine cab and the two red coaches were modified to make the coaches. The Stainz locomotive was sacrificed to provide the motive power. In reality, the Chiemseebahn tram was based on a Stainz steam engine. Because I used the base generic LGB coach body to make the cab for my tram, then it is approximately 0.5" too short. A boxcar and a sound car are also available to run with the set. I completed the set about two years ago but never got around to painting and assembling it. I finally extracted the digit and got it finished last night. Most trams had side loading firebox doors to enable single man operation. As parts were unavailable to convert my firebox to sideloading, I opted for the more usual rear loading door, thus two man operation is required to keep the engine in steam.

Now that’s downright cute!

Mik,
the prototype also had a 1st class enclosed coach. I have made a companion enclosed coach to go with the set, but have been very lax at painting it. I like to build projects and let them sit for a year or two and then finish them off.

Let them ferment a bit then, eh?

Superb!!!
