Got two little xmas tress at Walmart, each tree had 12 small 3mm white led’s, all hooked to a battery box for $8 for the two. Be neat for lighting up a car, or using the bulbs to replace regular bulbs. Just got some from All Electronics that size and paid like $2 each! This was a MUCH better buy! Might get out there quick, if you want some cheap bulbs.
Two things I like. LEDs and Cheap!
I saw a string of them fer like $12 the other day too…
Check Walmart for strings of small LED’s. They had strings of 10 in white, red and green with a small box on the end of the string that held 2 AA batteries. A bunch of us pillaged the Christmas dept last year because these strings work very for illuminating RC airplanes for night flying!!! I’ve got one plane with 50 of the little buggers (5 strings of 10 that is) on it and its really easy to see. If memory serves me right a 22ohm resistor is in line with the string and its able to handle 5V input while drawing only about .2A.

I just bought a set of 35 warm white christmas LEDs at home depot for 7.95. I plugged them in and some were warmer than others. But they all should be usable
Our local Target store has a large assortment of LED christmas lights in all colors and shapes. Prices are as low as $8 for a string of 60 bulbs. They have one style that is a white globe about 3/8" in diameter. They look like they would make excellent streat lamps. Check them out.

Got my 2008 display up and going now. I hope to get some video this weekend and post it on my website. LED’s need to get real cheep for me to use them. With over 50,000 lights on the display I would need a Gov. bailout to afford LED’s.
Thanks for the reminder about using Christmas lights. Last year I thought I would save by buying them right after Christmas on closeout at WalMart. No such luck. They immediately took them off the shelves, and I could not even get them at full price. I’ll have to pick some up this week.

Hobby Lobby has a product called “Tiny Lights”. Twenty light bulbs (1/8") on a string. Works off of 4 AA batteries. Can be switched to flashing or constant burn. Package says “10,000 hours” for $2.99.
They keep coming down in price. This year is the first time I’ve seen LED Christmas lights at prices close to the regular lights. I’m not sure yet if you’d be getting the same length and number of lights per foot as with the regular bulbs, though. And some styles still aren’t available with LEDs.
I just picked up a small set of warm white LEDs at Michaels last night, for possible use in models. It was marked at $4.99, and I had a 40% coupon, so only spent about $3.
