Large Scale Central

Change at Canadian Pacific Railway

It will be “interesting times” for railfans.

Anyone who railfans both CN and CP to more than a cursory extent has probably noticed the considerable difference in corporate culture as it exhibits itself “at the track level”. With the coming “American Invasion” after the shareholders’ meeting the less friendly attitude could infect the CP organisation from top to bottom.
Which from my point of view would be are real bummer. Up to now one could walk into the different offices at sub-division points and obtain permission for wide access. Time will tell what changes will be coming, but I fully intend to make the very most of it this summer while things are still “normal”.

OOPS and then the engineers, conductors and traffic controllers went out on strike.

While on the Alaska cruise we met a lot of people whose next leg of their trip was to be the Rocky Mountaineer journey between Vancouver and Banff/Calgary. While the RM isn’t affected between Vancouver and Kamloops - that’s the layover stop - the passengers are being bussed on the Kamloops to Banff/Calgary section.
From what I read this morning the busses stop for lunch at Revelstoke which is great for the three restaurants providing the meals and the downtown merchants are doing brisk bus(s)iness   during lunch hour. Revelstoke is approx. 3 hours (212kms) East of Kamloops.
