Challenger pulls Streamline Cars on a run

I had never pulled my scratch built streamliner cars with my scratch built Challenger, figured it was about time to see how they looked together.

WoW! Did you make the rocks too?

Excellent job Jerry!

The passenger cars look really good. I would like to see some pictures on their construction. Was there much of a price difference in scratchbuilding verses USA prices on smooth sided passenger cars?
Thanks,
Ron

nice looking train, Jerry…

Fantastic! Makes me want to go out and take a sledgehammer to my stuff :(

They look great.

Ron:

Jerry built those FOREVER ago–there was an article in Garden Railways in 1991 or so on building the observation car.

I’ll try and find it; Jerry, mind if I scan it?

Aug of 1995 issue of GR had my article on making it. I have it scanned can mail it to any that want it, just email me. On my web site, look at the projects page(button down the side a ways) My McKeen car trailer was built about the same way. When I made them, no company made any streamliner cars. I had some early passenger trucks, then got some Aristo trucks when they came out. Trucks will run you about $50 for a pair, USA’s are metal and higher than that. Then a piece of plastic to heat and drape over your form. I used clear plastic, then masked off the windows with computer labels and painted it, then lettering and make an interior, so not sure of any savings. Rarely is it cheaper to scratch build over buying ready made. I made my cars a bit shorter also, at the time I had a layout in town that had tight curves.

Nice looking consist Jerry. They look good together

Rudy, If your stuff is like my stuff, it will self destruct before you can sledgehammer it

Jerry,
How about some more video?
The job you did on the Challenger still amazes me.
Ralph

Jerry,

How come you didn’t bring it to the open house? : )

TRACK powered Don, plus too darned big to haul around!

Looking good, as always Jerry
