Large Scale Central

Challenge 2 Shawn V

Im actually almost done with my build but I will start the builders log a little late. I first took a hlw flatcar I got from wholesale trains for $24 and change http://i49.tinypic.com/65mhw7.jpgThen it was painted ruddy brown and I added some supports on top of the flat. These will support the water tank [IMG]

Then I added vertical post and attached the beams on the side.

Once the sides were built up to the desired height I added some supports to the top. The floor for the top will be layed on top of this. (Look its roosters pink knife LOL)

The boards for the top were added

The final steps will be to put some railing on top, ladders to get to the top. The the pump will be added with the hoses and other details. Once all done it will get weathered so everything blends in nice.

…winking…

I spent the last week getting the details put onto the fire car and weathering it. I decided to go with the ozark pump. After putting pipes etc. onto it it looked much better. I used a boot lace for the hose and an empty thread reel for the reel. I also wanted to make a fixed hose gun but could not find any. After searching around the house I come up with this

I used a fitting that is used to pump up rafts etc… for the nozzel. After cutting it to size I took a plastic rod and fitted it into the nozzel and then heated it to creat a bend. Then I used a nut for the base. A few small pieces of brass rod was used for a handle and another nut to turn the water on/off. After painting it a rusty color it actually came out pretty good.

Here is the completed Fire Car.

LOL Once the snow melts. I have an idea for that. :-)

Shawn,

Excellent work!! I love the simplistic character of that fire car.
