Ron,
Excellant work and explanation of how you did it. Please take the time to put this in the “Articles” portion of this site. Most impressive.

Here sports fans is the final installment of my challenge build. Sorry it took so long but my computer crashed big time and it took me a while to configure the laptop to do this. First to answer a couple of questions Bruce, the metal is .003". It is the tape that is used to seal furnace ducts and dryer pipes. The adhesive is extremely sticky and because the metal is soft it forms around the edges easily and stays put. Rick, I would have no problem with this being moved to the Articles section once the challenge is done, but I have absolutely no idea how to do that. Perhaps someone could give instructions. Now on to the pictures The first is a front view showing the rigging

Then with the boom slightly raised to allow the coupling or uncoupling of the tender car

The front of the hoist house with the travel door closed. Note the slots for the cables

The boom in its cradle for traveling

A close up between the derrick and tender cars. Note the coupled glad hands and coupler lift levers. The large square loops on the deck of the derrick car are for the outrigger beams.

The rear of the hoist house, note the steam line going over the roof. This is where the locomotive would have coupled on in order to provide steam for the hoist engine. Also note the rings in the side wall, this is where the derrick would have been tied down to the front of the loco to keep it from upending when lifting a heavy load.

Although the derrick is none operating, the winches can be turned in order to stage the derrick for photo purposes

Great job Ron. That one will be tough to beat.
Ron, great job on the set… Well done!!!
Sharp looking set Ron. Think the other two are right about this being hard to beat.
I went back through your post to find the prototype… you captured the essence, nice. Geoff
Oooohh Wow!!!
Probably have my vote…
NICE WORK!!
P.S. Don’t tell Ralphie The Rail Scale as I just coaxed him out of the tunnel last week.
I never ever saw a nicer railway crane than this before !
cheers Joe
I think we may have a winner
