Certificate Error

Bob,

I am getting notice of a security certificate error this evening, IE is trying to get me to not navigate to the main page. please let me know what is happening here.

AL P.

I just got the same on Firefox, I had to mark this site as a permanent exception. (Go Advanced)

It said the security was configured incorrectly and using the site could result in a security issue.

BD’s security certificate ran out at 2059 Eastern time this evening.

Same here, expired cert! Oh well I have nothing BD would want to hack int

So how are you getting access without having to go to the security by pass to access each and every page. Is this something that is going to be corrected or is this the new normal?

Thanks

Rick

Rick, Firefox gave me the option of making a permanent exception. I have full access just as always.

Rick,

You can just go to the http:// version as an alternative. (https://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

John, Chrome didn’t seem to give me that option, at least I couldn’t find it.

Thanks Joe, that seems to be working.

Yep, it looks like a certificate expired without warning. I cant do anything about it until later tonight.

And as a followup on what an expired certificate means exactly, because, yet again, I get a bunch of emails claiming LSC has been hacked or is somehow compromising your bank accounts. I addressed these in the threads about going to HTTPS, but apparently nobody was paying attention.

All an HTTPS certificate provides is a secure method for YOUR BROWSER to talk over the internet to the LSC servers.

That’s it.

It has ZERO to do with how secure the server is. The worst that can happen is that, out of all the traffic going on across the internet, if some hacker intercepted the one packet that has your login information to LSC, they could, gasp, log into LSC as you and… what? Post something? The horror.

That’s all HTTPS provides.

I got around it last evening by using the URL on Large Scale Central Facebook page. This seems to work just fine. The URL I was using WAS https and it showed the error. I re-bookmarked the new URL from Facebook and it shows to be http :).I’m totally confused. :). On my Mac, using Safari, https shows the error. Http DOES NOT. I’ll wait to see what happens after Bob takes a look this evening.

That’s right, So any comment’s on this site by me about how cool old ALCO diesels are, must of course be a fraudulent statement made by the hackers! (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

Update: I never got a renewal notice for the SSL certificate, so it expired. Just paid for a new one, should be working…soon… whatever soon means…

Isn’t technology wonderful? (https://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-undecided.gif)

It’s been happening to me for years Randy! However when LSC went HTTP…“S” it all stopped. However since the “Certificate” expired it has all started again making us realize we are all naked in the woods taking pictures of abandoned right of ways. Please Please bring back the S as I’m afraid and there, their, they’re,there are wolves after me.

I’m hoping that most realize that the prior and now more recent posts were not , weren’t, didn’t kum from me because my

I thought that the worst that could happen was that somebody would come on here without a “real” name and post a lot of Amtrak pictures while someone else would lament the lack of real names while complaining about poor grammar… oh wait…

Bob, as you know I disable adblocker plus on our site here to help out in any way I can…however, I notice that since I got a machine with windows ten on it, I don’t see “Google Ads” and if it helps out I’d rather see them, useless though they are.

Does anyone know what might be happening?

edit: to be clear, I see both titles “Ads by Google” but there’s nothing but blank space underneath. And, oddly, I DO see the ads at the top of the pages for like Train Engineer and all.

Yeah…get a room?(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-foot-in-mouth.gif)

Who would have guessed you could have so much fun by merely interfacing this cast of characters with occasionally sketchy technology.
