CD case and Little Bricks

Sort of a tram stop thing.Based on a CD case and bricks using a product that I found here… http://stores.ebay.co.uk/MINACO-UK Highly entertaining.

Neat looking shelter for your passengers…

Nicely done. Just getting ready to recycle a bunch of CD cases. Very timely, thanks.

Thats cool Troy, really innovative use of what might be considered junk.

Neat little project. It didn’t look like much at first but it finished up well. I looked at that brick system a few months ago but it won’t hold up to outdoor use.

Brian…I’m going to try various treatments on it to see how it copes with the great outdoors. This was really just a test piece for some house and shopfronts that I would like to build.I’ll let you know how it goes. The bricks themselves should be OK.It’s the adhesive,as always, along with the different building materials that will be the problem. The varied expansion and moisture absortion rates are the downfall of most combined modelling materials outside.
A fox or badger will probably eat it.

'ello Vic.Hope you’re well!

Doin well, Troy. hope your well too. Been reading you over on the Mad site…Later Vic

Are those mini bricks available in the USA? (I emailed the seller asking about shipping to the US but no reply yet.)

Unless I’m missing something, those aren’t actual bricks but a brick-patterned stencil. The link Troy provided was for individual miniature bricks (among other things), which appears to be what he used on his CD structure.

Unfortunately I haven’t been able to find a stateside source for 1/24th scale mini bricks.

The best place for that would be at a doll house store. They may not stock what you want but most of them can get on special order 1/2" doll house stuff. Most “G” scale stuff is sheet styrene.

Oops, my bad. Wrong thing! Like Warren said, I have only seen bricks in 1/12 scale on this side of the pond.

Google dollhouse bricks

http://www.dollhouseminiatures.com/Outdoor/bricks.htm

John, those are still 1;12. He’s looking for 1:24 which are almost impossible to find. The best suggestion I have for that would be JigStones.

Bricks come in all sizes.

What a neat little project… Got hundreds of those damn things here and ther and I was just trowing them out… That’s good plastic for thick windows too damnit. Ok i’m not kitbasher savvy yet, Hail to the master !!!

edit… has anyone tried using those brick roll sheets that KMart had at Xmas outside?? I’ll take a pic if you don’t know what i’m talking about. I roll could wrap the entire thing with only one true seam??? oh the possibilities

I have some of that stuff I plan on using on my indoor layout…but I doubt if it would hold up outdoors.

I’m gonna throw one of them out on the retaining wall tomorrow, weight it down, and see what happens to it in a couple weeks, only paid 50 cents for it anyways! See what snow and rain will do to it

I would get some Krylon clear matt spray with UV protectant and spray it with that. Or better yet spray half and see if it makes a difference.
