Caution: Polyurethane glues on hands

Gorilla Glue and others that include the ingredient “polyurethane” – even PL brand construction glue – have a strong inclination to remain on any that gets on your hands. Even lacquer thinner won’t fully take off the stain. As I write this, I have two fingers that have been scrubbed with lacquer thinner and a nail brush with little benefit. I found repeated application of hand creme can lift the stain whereby soap will eventually remove it.

Latex gloves are the regimen.
Any alternative methods of removal are welcomed!

Ummmmmm you expected glue not to glue?

The only thing I found that helps is to scrub it off before it fully cures, using sand and plenty of water. The only other solution is time – eventually it either wears off or comes off with the natural shedding of skin.

The wife was sealing some mouse holes with urethane spray foam and quickly learned that stuff is stuck to you for good. Acetone works some but nothing gets it all off. I have work clothes with it still on a year later.

Yup. It glues skin quite securely.

There is nothing worse than clean, gluey hands when you are scrubbing for surgery. It is hard to “splain” to your colleagues.

I generally wear gloves when I work on projects at home, except when I forget…
