I blame Bart!
Local news said something about a lighting strike that started the fire. Either way it’s sad.
Was this an active bridge or was it on an abandoned line?
The rails appeared to be welded, so my guess is that it was active. Judging from the railroad map, that trestle was on the mainline of the Portland and Western Railroad, as it passed through Sherwood, OR.

As Steve pointed out it’s on the mainline for the P&W. I haven’t heard anything yet on Farcebook about P&W rebuilding the trestle, but it might be a tad soon.
A little-used wooden train trestle that caught fire Monday collapsed in two places early Tuesday morning, officials said.
Railroad business won’t be affected because of the collapsed trestle, the company said. It hasn’t determined whether to rebuild the trestle.

Yeah, that’s it, blame it on lightning. What if someone was tired of that thing and wanted it gone? What is someone just enjoys watching stuff like that happen? Sad. And maddening.
