HI Guys & Gals: I got my order of low temp tin alloy and a melting laddle yesterday evening. Well today I tried my first casting, to say the least I failed to get a nice casting. But I did learn a few things. 1. I need a larger torch or bunson burner, to heat the laddle more evenly. Plus I need a metal craddle to put the laddle down on to cool … 2. I need to use a piece of wire to help the molton metal flow more evenly into the mold. Which I thnk when the laddle is more evenly heated, it may pour better. The photos below shows the air bubbles I got
,
- One nice thing about this metal, if you screw up, you can remelt the metal and try again.
- Cooling time is pretty fast, I let things sit a few minutes while I got a drink of water, and checked if metal was cooling, it was just warm to the touch, and very solid. the photo below shows how the metal puddled cause I did not have enough hands or no-how to wipe excess metal off the mold.
- Any metal which spilled onto the bench or edge of mold could be picked up with a pair of needle nose pliers and dropped back in laddle as soon as it hardened. The metal DID NOT mar the surface of the mold or the bench top…
