Carter Brothers passenger cars

I finally found a styrene cutter who will cut out a Carter combine and coach in the board and batten using the DXF file from David Fletcher and his master class. I also have the DXF files for the planked vision as well. Let me know as I do not what to wait on this.

Ah? Whats the price?

And does Dave know ?

Don’t know yet. It’ll be a lot lower if I can get the other three cars sold.

@Dave M. - I also have the DWG / DXF files of the Carter coaches. If my memory is correct Dave F. gave permission for individuals to reproduce the cars for personal use. Permission was only required if there was a commercial interest involved. A very back burner project of mine is to convert the metric plastic drawings to use imperial plywood. I have not worked on the project in some time and would need a couple of hours to get my head back into the drawings. The rub here is the ‘get the other three cars sold.’

My tuppence worth…

Bob C.

Bob and Bob,

Well I just found out what the price will be per car. It will be in the close area of $400.00 per. I cancelled my order.

No it wouldn’t be three cars to sell off, it would be 8 cars to sell. 4 combines and 4 coaches. And you are correct about the permission. I’m not saying who the cutter is, but he went though the whole bit contacting Dave Fletcher and Bronson-Tate for permission to cut them.

So I’m back to square 1 again.

Hey Chester,

Yes the laser cutter did contact me, and that was fine. The intent was indeed to allow people to use the DXF files to cut their own if they wanted to.

I think you may have to go back to asking at MLS. We cut so many styrene kits, there has to be a lot of them not yet built up. Someone may be willing to sell to you. I cant be sure how many were ultimately built, but it was in the order of 20-30 units. Yet kits made was well over 50 in styrene.

Then there is Harold etc in Germany who you could contact to have it done in wood - not the same I know.

Wish Bachmann would bring out a smaller 1:20.3 car like this - these cars are actually more managable on smaller railroads compared to the much larger AMS ones.

David.

I had the Lasergang (Harald in Germany) cut me a wooden kit a few years ago, and it was only $200-ish. Of course, your exchange rate may vary. As far as I know, they are still around.

Th wooden kit was fine, though I would reccommend sanding the sides thoroughly before you glue on the battens!!

David - we’re all crossing our fingers about Bachmann’s Fn3 coaches - if they ever produce them. They won’t be visible until the Toy shows in the Fall anyway, as that’s how Bachmann seems to do things.

OK then, taking Davids advice, I am looking for 1 Carter Brothers board & batten combine and 1 coach kit in styrene. If you have one or both that you’d be willing to part with, write to me off list or direct email. 2footer at comcast dot net.
