Large Scale Central

Carl Arendt

I just received this sad news from a group that I’m on.

To those who follow Carl’s Small Layout Scrapbook site, and are wondering why it hasn’t been updated, it falls to me to relay this sad news.

I have just had an email from Carl’s wife and she has asked me to pass on the following message. Carl is under hospice care and is not expected to live very long, which is why there has been no update. I do know that there are several people out there who are interested in hosting the website and continuing his work, but I have no idea how we go about doing that - an email to me off the group (please use the drop down messaging window to reply to Jack directly - RH) would be appreciated if you know what would need to be done, although whether there will be anyone at that end who knows how the site is hosted I know not, and this isn’t the time to ask.

I know your thoughts will be with him, but if you want to pass on condolences it would be preferable if you could post on here, rather than inundating his wife with emails. I will pass them on to her so she can read them.

Thanks,
Jack Trollope

Oh man thats terrible news,

I had no idea he was that ill. Carls website has been a constant source of inspiration for me, I was hoping to update the scrapbook with my downsized layout soon. I have corresponded with Carl via email in the past and Carl included my earliest micro in his 3rd book, I have all 3, his enthusiasm is infectious!

The website is right now of no importance, I hope Carl gets the best of care in his remaining time, thats what is important.

Sad news indeed. Although I didn’t know him, his work with micro layouts was of great interest and I’m sure it inspired a great many people. I considered it very useful to anyone working in large scale, because even on a large layout it is often necessary to squeeze industrial sidings, etc into tight places.

Dittos here. His site was the inspiration and sometimes the source for many sections of layout plans I have developed. His is a truly unique site and approach to the model railroading hobby.

Oh my :frowning: Sorry they are all having to go through this sad time.
Carl’s website is informative and fun, hope there is a person who can pick up the banner and carry on in his memory.

God Bless.

Thoughts and prayers for Carl and his family at this time.

Very sad news. Prayers for Carl and his family. I always looked forward to web site every month. He started a great thing with the micros. My wine Barral layout made it in one of his articles a few months back. Never knew he was ill unless it came on fast. He will be missed.

Sad news indeed. I’ll have to build a small layout in his honor.

Bob - what a great idea that is.

Who else?

I’m renaming one of the stores on my tiny layout “Arendt’s Odd’s & End’s” seams appropriate and I just picked up one of these…I aint quite out of garden railroading yet…
