The video makes no mention of the car’s GOP child labor assembly plant in China or the GOP Finance that will do the lending and require your great grand children to make the payments

Actually the vid was pretty funny, what was with the disco shorts? Nearly tossed the cookies on the last dance number!
I do recall those wedge-shaped electric vehicles.
Remember them catching fire in carports, too.
I do.
Used to have the remains of the axles around here.
The liberals are coming to get you.
Latest bill in-work in our liberal-controlled state will tax you on engine displacement.
Every year.
Up to 1.9L, $0
2.0L to 2.9L, $70
3.0L to 3.9L, $225
4.0L to 4.9L, $275
5.0L to 5.9L, $325
6.0L to 7.9L, $400
8.0L and over, $600.
That should reduce the number of gas guzzlers on the road.

The tax Dr G wrote about (wherever it is proposed) is not about “gas guzzlers” at all. It is just an attempt of government agencies to control everything in our lives.
In this case, it is an attempt to control what everybody drives while increasing the flow of money into government coffers. Except for those who are able to use a vehicle with the tiniest engine it is just an extraction of money from our pocketbooks, without doing anything to reduce consumption or improve mileage.
And also note that it is an on-going fee on what you already used tax-paid money to purchase, paid sales tax on, and pay tax on to keep running and fueled. Just taxes on taxes on taxes on taxes. Someone needs to ask exactly what service this government agency will be providing in return for the new tax.
The so-called investment banks and Wall Street thieves have gotten our country into a serious financial hole. Now our governments continue to add to the problem by increasing taxes at every turn.
This is the kind of crap that the libs just love. Control of everything in everybody’s life while improving their cash flow.
Dr G doesn’t give enough information to do the research, but I’ll bet the people who are proposing this legislation won’t be subject to paying it. Here in California, our legislators drive government provided cars of their choice with all depreciation, maintenance, repairs and fuel paid by the state taxpayers. They aren’t in any way subject to any of the car, fuel or mileage taxes they sign into law. Most of them drive large luxury sedans or SUVs. When asked about their free cars, gas and maintenance, along with their choice of vehicle, they use the same old “. . . I need this in order to do my job . . .” crap. They are way more important than the rest of us.
I guess Leona Helmsley was right: Only the little people pay taxes.

Looks like a revenue thing to me.
Most newer cars have smaller motors. Trucks being an exception.
But if you can only afford to drive an older vehicle this tax will hit you hard.
It won’t hurt the people driving the Hummer.
But some people driving old cars may owe more in tax than their car is worth.

Ralph B_rg said:No I wouldn't. Partly because it is reliable and comfortable, and partly because I use LPG which makes it quite cheap to run anyway. Naturally I cannot speak about how Americans think on these matters, but, here in Australia, and certainly in Europe, we accept that there is a penalty for owning and driving bigger cars.TonyWalsham said:You think so? Is that penalty safety?

There are people here in the USA that feel the same as you. They believe the little people of the working class should drive smaller cars, but that it doesn’t apply to them. An example of this is coming to the top right now as we see these “so called” leaders and smart people, that will save the economy of the World, getting caught for not paying taxes.
Ric Golding said:As in our new Secretary of the Treasury, Timothy Geithner, who is a tax scofflaw. His explanation is that he just made a "mistake." The "mistake" he has confessed to was for tax payments in one year totaling $34,000. No telling how much he has really gotten away with not reporting or paying over the years. Bottom line, Mr. Geithner is a serious tax code violator.

Some CHANGE! The kingmakers just keep appointing the same old criminals.

Jerry,
“Some CHANGE! The kingmakers just keep appointing to same old criminals.”
you expected less?
Same puppet masters, different puppets.

Another of “The One’s” choices for cabinet member, Tom Daschle (Secretary of Health and Human Services) has also made a few hundred thousand dollars in tax “mistakes.” Here is quote from a letter Daschle sent to the Senate Finance Committee:
"Thank you for the work you and the Committee are doing to move forward on my nomination by President Obama to be Secretary of Health and Human Services. I know that despite the heavy workload from both the Economic Recovery Act and SCHIP, as well as all the nominees the Committee is handling, your staff has worked diligently on my nomination. I also appreciate the strong commitment to fairness you both have expressed.
“As you can well imagine, I am deeply embarrassed and disappointed by the errors that required me to amend my tax returns. I apologize for the errors and profoundly regret that you have had to devote time to them. I will be happy to answer any Committee members’ questions about these issues”.
Here is an earlier Daschle quote (Before he was caught cheating on his taxes): "Make no mistake, tax cheaters cheat us all, and the IRS should enforce our laws to the letter.” Sen. Tom Daschle, Congressional Record, May 7, 1998, p. S4507.
Does anyone think that either Geithner or Daschle would have ever “realized” that they owed taxes if they hadn’t been nominated to serve in Obama’s cabinet? And once found out, neither of them has the decency to say “I’m sorry, but I must withdraw from consideration.”
Seems BHO is way more concerned with protecting and rewarding his political buddies (in these cases, tax criminals), than showing the American taxpayer that honesty counts. But from the postings above and elsewhere I guess I’m one of the very few left in the country who believes dishonesty should be punished rather than rewarded. Our politicians truly do believe they live in a world different from mine!
Happy RRing,
Jerry
Jerry,
String them up by their balls, if they have any. These aren’t people that have made mistakes, but people that got caught. All of the “so called” leaders feel they are above the law. The laws are only made for us common folk. Just like the light bulbs we use and the cars we drive, we need to be regulated, they don’t.
The penalty for owning and driving bigger cars here in Australia is financial. Smaller cars cost less to register, (licence).
I choose to drive what I do for a number of previously stated reasons. Not the least of which is reliability, comfort and low cost of running.
I am one of those that does believe the masses should be encouraged to drive smaller cars. The best way to achieve that noble goal is to tax big cars more highly as a disincentive to owning and operating them.
I have a easy answer.
flat tax rate. no write offs.
easy.
now I need to go fuel up my big pig f-350 crew cab duelly truck and run over some yugos.
