Large Scale Central

Can't see this in Florida

All you need is scale snow!

Actually quite insane. train full of tank cars being driven at speed by a locomotive whose windows are covered in snow. this is an accident waiting to happen.

Not for me to be picky, but I posted the link to that video yesterday … in the Video section http://www.largescalecentral.com/forums/topic/23144/plow-action-without-plow

I have no idea how well the track is maintained in New Brunswick, but a huge snow drift like that this close to a level crossing presents considerable risk. I remember the banging last Fall everytime we came across a level crossing while on VIA #2 on the Prairies.

Oh BTW, they do have windshield wipers on those engines and putting the train into emergency as soon as they couldn’t see would have been really asking for it.

H-J, You’ll have to work on your titles then… (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

Those drifts were too tall to take slow. A stalled train is a bigger concern.

Must be quite a ride for those aboard.

I have a video in my collection about the plow action on Rogers Pass (CP Transcon main) which shows the action with a regular plow. What transpired in New Brunswick looked just like it, but without the plow. Sure would have been interesting to hear the call in to RTC on that one, if the wiper didn’t manage to clear the windshield. (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-sealed.gif)

When the horn sounded, I felt that they were still in (near) total control.

Correct, the last big CN bonfire in New Brunswick happened last year, it’s a new year now. (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-yell.gif)(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-yell.gif)

Why? If they were to see something through a clear windshield, by the time they saw it it would too late to stop anyway.

Awesome video. Just a LITTLE bit scarey, though!!
