Large Scale Central

Canadian Pacific passenger car lettering style?

I hope that this post is self-explainish - I've just emole a gentleman over in BC after seeing his work in H0 scale - some of you may know who he is - if so, please don't post his name here.

Good morning, XXXXXXXX - my name is tac foley, I live in the UK [mostly], and I'm about to take delivery of some Gauge 1 AccuCraft smooth-siders to haul behind my live steam Royal Hudson.  I have a YouTube channel called tac's trains - this loco often features on it.

I'm told by AccuCraft that they do not have names on the appropriate cars - diner, sleeper, observation - so I'd like to put my own home-associated names on them instead.

Sadly, the actual models do not truly represent the Grove cars that we know so well, being a generic model, but nobody over here in UK would recognise them anyhow, so I
don't feel too bad about putting my own choice of place names and people's names on them.

I'll be calling them 'ALGONQUIN', 'PRES'QUILLE' and 'PICTON', and the second set 'WOOLER', 'GEOFFREY LORD'  and 'THOMAS LORD', in memory of my two uncles who went ashore on Gold Beach seventy years ago this week with the rest of the Princess Pats.

What I'd like, Sir, from you, is to know what font would have been used on the Grove cars, and the lettering height, so that I can arrange to have them custom-made by one or the other of lour large-scalle decals makers.

Thanks for any help and advice that you might provide.

Best from over here.

Tac,

I found these, there is a link to them at the bottom of my web page. My page is done by a nice guy in Nova Scotia.

tac… I should be able to match any font shown in those images if you need them…

Blatant advertising… Grins…

'kay, Stan - you were my call in any case. I’ll send you a dimensioned photo of my only Gauge 1 car with C A N A D I A N P A C I F I C on it.

On the other paw, I could scan in any of my H0 Grove-style side-smoothers…those that have names, that is.

I was just trying to make things easier for ya, y’know.

Best to all there, from us here.

Stan will do you prowd!

Sounds good, tac… Either way would work… I can scale the HO up to 1:29 if needed…

Email on the way…

@ Seán - Stan and I have been dealing across the ocean for many years now -I have no doubt that I’ll be, as ever - totally happy with his products.

@ Stan - Gauge 1 is 1/32nd, not that funky 1/29th ‘scale’ invented by Mr Polk…but you knew that.

So the new Accu smoothsiders are about to arrive in Jolly Ole England?

Not that I know, just getting prepared in case they DO turn up someday, and I’m not ready.

‘Jolly Ole England’ eh?

I tell ya, this place sure isn’t half as much fun as most folks think it is.

Neither is most of the rest of the World… :frowning:

PS… I can do them in 1:32 as well…

Just jerking your chain, Stan.

Email coming over some time this evening…

Just like to post a thanks here to Andy Wegmuller of Vancouver BC who kindly answered my crie de coeur about letter style, even though he is a professional H0 modeller of some note.

Thank you Sir, if you ever read this.

He wrote - ‘You can use a “New Century Schoolbook” font, or “Times New Roman” they
are close, and the height would be 6 inches.’

There y’are Stan!

I’ll hold on until I know that the cars are on their way, but you have all the names there already.

I’ll let you know which ones I need.

Best
