Camping/Fly Fishing

Okay,

First, I am not dead!!!

Second, I haven’t been online because I have been spending the last 10 days in the woods. I went camping on the North Fork of the Coeur d’ Alene River. I sat by a fire, sipped whiskey, and did a lot of fly fishing for cutthroat trout. Had excellent fishing every day; catching many fish and some really very nice sized ones the largest being about 16". Which for July and as high upstream on the river where I was fishing, this is a very good sized fish. Many in the 12"-14". Usually by July these big fish have migrated back down stream after spawning and are in the lower reaches of the river leaving the upper reaches to the smaller fry to 10" fish. This was not the case this year, everything seemed about a month late and these nice sized fish were plentiful and full of piss and vinegar. Very good fishing. I also got to share most this with my long time buddy so that was great.

But I had to come home so back to the grind.

Pics or it didn’t happen … You go on vacation then we have to retrain you …(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

Well then it didn’t happen. I turned my phone off and was technology free. Me and a fly rod. That was pretty much it.

As you should of done …well done …

They still make point and shoots!

We’re glad you’re back, sorry to muse about a 10 day stint in the pokey… hey no pics! What can we think?(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-surprised.gif)

I have very few pictures of the fish I catch. honestly I have enough crap with me when I fly fish that I don’t need a camera. Also I am a firm believer of getting a fish off the hook and in the water as fast as I can. I don’t net fish I release so typically I reach down grab the hook give a flick and off they go, at least when fly fishing trout. So sorry you will have to take my word for it. But they were beautiful fish.

I am thinking seriously of getting a go pro and then I can at least film it and get screen shot of the fish I catch. that might be Okay.

So you are basically saying that you spent the last 10 days playing cutthroat with wooly nymphs ? Perhaps the black ants came into play as well but probably not. 10 days in the woods like that can severely impact a man in turn promoting cases of early chronic wackatitus when not focused on the wooly nymph. Dr. Rooster recommends heavy doses of Vitamin P upon return home along with barley hops wheat and water fermented smoothies!

I do believe Devon had a good time … I’m hearing Banjo music for some reason …

Something like this Sean,

I was trying to post the one with Steve Martin and Kermit …

You guys crack me up. No banjo music (although I do like banjo music). And Rooster there were a few sea nymphs on the water, floating in inner tubes. They may or may not have been wooley, however I am respectful and did not examine them that closely.

Great … That’s our goal ! (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Sounds like you had a very nice and relaxing time, Devon.

I used to fly fish the N Fork years ago. We usually camped up around Big Hank.

Now we ride out of The Hank.

We camp across the street from the old Shoshone work center. Most of our fishing was done between Kit Price and Big Hank. Although we did venture to Teepee Cr a couple of times. I was very surprised to catch 12"-14" fish on Teepee in July. The quality of fish is most excellent.

In a few weeks we are riding out of Hawkseye (Shoshone Creek) over the mountains into Trout Creek, Montana and back.

Last year we rode out of Hank to Spyglass and down to the ranger station on Teepee Cr and back.

Have you fished Shoshone Creek?

A few times. Always small fish down low and a few brook trout up higher. Never can find any decent fish.
