Camera Comparison Test

I picked up a new JVC Adixxion camera after the holidays. It was on sale as the newer version is due out pretty soon. My little JVC Picsio has served me well for the past three years, but it doesn’t have a removable battery, and is starting show its age by not giving me as much run time as when it was new. The JVC Adixxion is JVC’s entry into the “Action Cam” arena like the GoPro. It has WiFi and after a full day of messing around, I finally got it to sync with my iPhone to be able to control it. Had to upgrade the firmware, and you need a PC to do that since JVC doesn’t cater to the MAC crowd. Here is the video I took this past weekend in what I would consider not optimal conditions. Low uneven lighting and the roar of a space heater in the background. I like the video outcome from the new camera, prefer the audio from the old. Will continue to use both since they are so small and they don’t take up much room in the steamup kit. I would be happy to hear your thoughts as well.

Wow what a difference. he Adixxion is much better. The sound and picture is definitely better. Has a much cleaner look to it. It doesn’t seem to pick up the background noise like the old camera. I can clearly hear the heater with the old camera, the newer one I can hear it and the people talking in the background is not as audible. The new camera will make your videos even better.

I need to start looking for a better camera. Ill have to take a look at this one.

I have the JVC Everio and I’m happy with it, takes great pictures, (and the price was right!) though it does go through a lot of contortions just get it to download.

It almost sounds like a Zoom mic but without the zoom.

Looks good to me! My problem seems to lie inthe lack of uplink where we live. I take ALL my movies in HD, but whhen they appear on YT they are rarely [3 out of 200] still in HD - most are limited to 480. The system asks me to convert it to some crappy low-res format that makes taking the trouble to make a video in the fust place almost a waste of time.

Ralph Berg seems to have no problem uploading in 1080p. I don’t post on Youtube so I don’t have any experience. When I post HD on Vimeo they make a low-res version available a while before the HD version will play.

Could it be that the twine you are using to connect to the internet needs waxing?

Could be. I just tried now and the YT system advose me to convert my HD movie to a low-grade crappy spec - makes me not want to bother much.

@H-J - what would you recommend for a klutz like me to buy for a movie camera? Got ca. $1000.00 to spend.

And yes, I can actually put a movie together when I use my BIL’s internet - for some reason, his buttwipeburg up in North Wales gets 12 -15 Mbps internet…

On the camcorder: Panasonic HC-V720, it does a very nice job for me.

Regarding the upload get a Vimeo account in addition to the YT. I upload the 1080p vids to Vimeo. Using CyberLink for the editing I use their upload/compression gizmo for YT, the quality isn’t as good as Vimeo, but a lot better than some of the stuff I watched on YT.

Thanks, H-J.

Actually I get nearer 25 mpbs, just to rub it in…!! And if I had a spare $1000, I would get something I could put water and gas in…

NOBODY in this part of UK - not even the Cambridge Science Park - even gets near that.

TAC - You folks are deprived. Here 30Mbps is pretty standard if you have internet via the cable TV. At one of my work locations we have 100mbps, but that gets shared between 115 apartments so during peak hours individuals get no where near that. But, since it’s partially college housing, if you get up at 6AM you probably would :]

BUT - for uploading videos, your download speed doesn’t matter. It’s your upload speed. Mine peaks at about 10Mbps.
