Large Scale Central

Calling Mr Walsham

Mornin’ Mr W - I noticed on the UK forum from which I’m banned that you have carried out yet another set-up to one of those nice plastic K-27s.

Sadly, I bought my tin K-27 long before the plastic version appeared, but I’d still like to have it r/c’d using your system. It is fitted with a Sierra sound system, and I’d like the option of track power or trailing car battery power, if that’s feasible.

Your advice would be very much appreciated - by PM if necessary.

Tac, the Accucraft k27 is one of their earliest designs. As such, it has a special idiosyncrasy: it is a single insulated loco. Not double insulated like everything else. one must be aware of this when designing the system. There is a strange little terminal strip under the rear cab floor, which must be isolated and separated. Since the original track power config also transmitted power through the drawbar, this must also be changed, and a new 6 or 8 pin connector setup used to allow full control of lights, chuff cam and of course motor power.

Conversion works well, and performance with the original motor can be much improved under control of a good r/c system, but the conversion is a bit different than standard. It is also important to mark with paint the tender trucks so that they stay in the original rotation orientation that will avoid a short circuit if one gets turned around and it ever gets set down on track power-again the trucks are single insulated
