Cabin Fever 2025

I’ve never been to this event until now.

This event is in Lebanon PA, a bit east of Hershey.

In summary, I think, this is where the state of Pennsylvania, and neighbor states, grab hold of all their mechanical modelers and shake them out in one place.

I’ll try to post my vids. As usual, they will be raw, hideous, and unedited. But through them. you’ll see things as I did on this crazy day.

I was there with the boy and the old man back in 2013. It was the last year that it was held in York I believe. I don’t have any pics of the old man as he spent all his time inside at the auction and for sale section HOARDING stuff!

Thanks for the pics Rooster.

That’s an amazing boat. There’s signs all around the pool this year saying “No Wake.” I’ll bet the venue learned the hard way to put that sign up, with boats like that!

Love the bridge in the background.

Wot? . . . . . No trains?

The 1/14 construction guys are amazing with their models. And if you don’t want to build your own, you can always just buy them.

Pete, I took 3 videos of the trains on Friday. I had a chance for more yesterday, but couldn’t even get into the room! And now I see none of the Friday attempts came out at all. Thumb on the lens type of stuff. Oh well.

This is amazing, Cliff.
Thanks for sharing! I’ll have to get out to that event one of these days. For now, you’ve made me more excited for the ARS show next weekend.

Thanks John, and have a blast next weekend (and post about it)!

I visited Cabin Fever many many years ago - a truly humbling experience! :kissing_closed_eyes:

I used to go all the time, until we started spending winters in FL! I loved all the models - how about a 1/4 scale auto V8 that works? And lots of vendors, and an auction - including a rather nice steam launch the last year I was there.

Note that Jerry [@naptowneng] did not go this year. He got Covid last time, as the Amish and others around there don’t do a lot of vaccinations (he thinks) and, it being cold, the doors were tightly shut, and there were gazillions of people crammed in the train area.

And lets not leave out the 1/20 modelers.

A few photos…

This guy is president of the Reading Society of Model Engineers. Check out the larger caboose in back of him.

The Aikenback Live Steam club were there with 2 loops.

Some of these guys take their hobby kinda seriously!

Some shots in the little engine hall.

Lots of tool vendors, most focused on small-scale machining.

You’d love this, Devon. 2’ tall, all functional.

Bruce, I thought of you when I saw these:

Friend Mark L. was there with his live steam tug boat.

A telephone box (with phone inside) for sale, reminded me of Jon’s trackside shed a couple years back, where I think one of these was installed.

My only regret was misunderstanding the auction, when ended Friday AM (not started, as I’d thought). All bidding was online. They had numerous small old stationary engines, many of which sold for less than $100.

It was really great seeing whole families and lots of kids.

Nice photos, Cliff.

For those NOT in the know, I am in the Yacht Club here and we race RC sailboats twice a week. Fun stuff.

Commodore Chandler just rolls off the tongue. :man_pilot:

Thanks for that shot, Bruce.

There was a big yacht sailing in the CF pond, aided by a big-a$$ fan.

Funny thing, I overheard a conversation between a yachter and a live-steam boater, regarding how they couldn’t sail together anymore and needed to coordinate, because the big yacht fan was blowing out the engine fire on the live steam boats!
