Cab green

Does anyone know what brand or color of paint to use for D&RGW interior cab green?

Also need aged wood or driftwood color for roof walks.
Thanks,
jb

I’m not sure about the exact shade of green on the inside of the D&RGW cabs, but something close to a “Kelly” green, though with a touch more yellow, I think. Something close to the color of your average green leaf. As for the roofwalk paint, I use a color called “barnwood” that’s made by Folk-Art. Michael’s, Hobby Lobby, etc. will have it. I use that as a base coat, let it dry overnight, then go back with a wash of very dilute black paint to fill in the cracks and bring out the grain. (This only works if there’s grain there to begin with, so brake out the 60-grit sandpaper on the smooth plastic before you paint.

The end gates are wood, stained with the same dilute black paint as I washed the deck of the flat car. You’ve got to get real close to notice the difference. Later, K

I spent a half hour in Michael’s one day looking for the Barnwood color with no luck. They kept trying to sell me Barn Red. It halps to know the brand. That cuts down the number of bottles to look through by about 1/3.

I need to paint my Bachman flat to match the scratch built one, and well the bottle is open, the roof walks on a box car.

Even if you know the brand, you have to look at a half dozen different places at Michaels. You can find paint on just about every other aisle there. I found one brand of paint in 4 different places. No one place had every color.

But thanks for bringing up Michaels. I bet I can find the Krylon paints there.

Thanks for all the tips, and for posting the pics.
I went to my local Michaels and among the thousands of paint no Folkart barnwood was found.
But I came up with substitute and I’ll see how that works.
I found the cab green down at my LHS.
