I have Cab Command installed in two of my engines so far. I am replacing my EVO units. The system works very well and the precise speed control with the knob is great. At low speed you can make an engine crawl at a prototypical speed. At high speed I don’t have run-a-ways due to loss of signal as I did with the EVO units. My wife appreciates not being poked in the eye with a long TX antenna. Also, the battery life in the TX is long. Keeping the batteries charged in the hobby radio TX was a pain.
I wouldn’t normally intrude in a thread about a competing R/C system. However, I would like to address the EVO problems expressed by Mr Smith.
It is true that using the older AM type radios with EVO ESC’s, the signal could drift, such that the loco could accelerate or brake on its own. That is part of the reason why I stopped selling the EVO brand for a little while.
Now that I have had ongoing experience with the rock solid 2.4 GHz R/C used with the EVO operating system I am more than confident this “drifting” is a thing of the past. The EVO brand is back on the market at lower cost than before for some items.
Mr Smith did not report the faults to me. If he had, I may have been able to offer him a much less expensive solution to his problem.
6 channel 2.4 GHz radios are obtainable for US$50 delivered to your door.
I have Cab Command in two of my Bachmann “Connie’s”. I have not been in this hobby too long but I can’t see running my trains with out it. The System was very affordable and easy to install. The hand held unit was a breeze to program, and the options it gives you make it very usable for anybody. Seriously, if you have not given it a good look you need to.
Someone care to expound upon this item. maybe with a link?
