I have had the basics of this sign for 4 or more years, since my neighbor passed and he left it to me. And I’ve been working in a sign shop for over two years, so I suppose it’s about time I got this done.
When I received it from my neighbor Ted, it was unpainted cast aluminum. All the detail was there, but in monochrome it didn’t look like much. A few weeks ago, after looking for several hours trying to remember just where I stored it, I dragged it out and painted it satin black.
It then went to my dining room table where the detail was hand painted. I didn’t follow any prototype and used colors I had on hand making decisions as to what to paint and what color to use as I went along. Interestingly, I did find the prototype for the casting after I had it all painted. My version is quite a bit less colorful
I think it turned out rather well…
I still plan to add the C.V.S.Ry. initials like on my steam locos as soon as I can get someone at work to cut the vinyl.
