I’m personally thrilled to see this, its a hometown locomotive. Her sister 1308 is at the Collis P huntinton Railroad Society’s Mueseum in Huntington WV and I’ve had occasion to climb all over her! What a deal!!!

Very cool thanks for sharing

Why should Uncle Pete have all the fun ?

Is that going to be based out of Cumberland, MD?

never mind, I didn’t read the whoie article…;

Nice!!

I do have a question. The current locomotove pulles the train to Frostburg, and then turns on the turntable to point the other direction for the run back to Cumberland. I do not beleive that Mallet would fit on the turntable, so how are they going to run her on that train? Or, are they planning to run her on a different right of way?

Well, an H6 is rather small for a 2-6-6-2 only 99 ft long, and I think the Frostburg TT is 100’ so it’ll fit…or mebbe she’ll just back down the mountain?

I was corrcect…the 1309 WILL fit on the Frostburg TT

Oh, I stand corrected. I thought she was suuposed to be a giant among steam. Well, thats cool. It is definetly going to be worth the trip to Cumberland when they get her running. But the way she looks in the pictures, that may be a while.

Spring 2016, apparently 734 is running outta flue time at the end of 2015…

Great to see old locomotives put into functional condition once again !

A dream trip for 2016 would be to go see 1309 under steam at Cumberland, then go on up to see N&W 475 at Strassburg. C&O and N&W are my hometown roads. 475 prolly ran within 300 yards of my house once upon a time, and I have speant a lot of time around the coal branches that the 1309 worked areound Logan WV…

This is so cool. Glad to see that this is coming to someplace I have a chance to get to. Theres a fantastic campground just a few miles East of Cumberland that we stayed at during our Cass trip a few years back. Sure was a bear getting the RV up Sideling hill though. Got down to under 10MPH by the time we reached the crest.
